Design is at much about the space around the content as it is about the content itself.
During the screenwriting days of my younger years, I remember talk of the “white space” on a page. Professional readers, faced with the prospect of an intimate relationship with 120 pages of crappy writing, are encouraged to see a sparsely written page that demonstrates efficient word choice and, hopefully, a well organized narrative.
Visual design is no different. We appreciate the content of a design more when we can seee that it was thoughtfully crafted, and not just filled up with superfluous information.
Give the design room to do its job. Let it breathe.
