Captive Audience in the Key Demo

March 23, 2012

Apparently “Hunger Games” is breaking all sorts of box office records this weekend. Thousands of screenings are selling out in advance.

I haven’t read the books, but based on what I hear, and what I see in the trailer and TV commercials, the story involves teens and pre-teens fighting to the death in some sort of amalgamation of Stephen King’s “Running Man” and Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery.” With a dash of Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto.”

Violence would seem to be required, but the movie is rated PG-13. Let’s hope there aren’t any f-words in the film, or the rapid teen audience will be deeply corrupted.
