If you don’t think the Caitlyn Jenner story is noteworthy, that’s fine. If you don’t think she is entitled to a courage award for athletes, you’re entitled to that opinion. But don’t conflate that point of view into some bizzarro gay vs. military culture war.
The ESPY’s are not real awards. They are a TV show created by producers who need content in the middle of July. Nobody voted for or against Caitlyn Jenner. Nobody picked her over some random disabled veteran. When you get worked up over a non-existent ESPY runner-up you are essentially protesting the results of a Hollywood production meeting.
If you are passionate about the cause of disabled veterans, great, do something about it. But don’t just re-tweet some false meme and pat yourself on the back. And maybe don’t be so quick to buy into such spiteful clickbait. You’re being manipulated. Legitimate causes shouldn’t need to lie to you.
